What is an IOP?
Get The Help You Need
Deciding to get help for an addiction, or assisting a loved one who is getting help can be emotional and confusing. At Drug Rehab Ohio, we are here to make the process of receiving professional help as straightforward as possible by ensuring you understand the types of treatment programs, and choosing one that caters most directly to your needs.
While addiction can impact anyone, the level of care needed for each individual varies greatly depending on their addiction history, home environment, mental health status, and more. Our Intensive Outpatient Program is a good solution for those who do not require 24/7 accountability and care, but still need the benefits addiction treatment can provide. An IOP serves as an excellent transition from residential treatment into a support-filled program where the patient can explore more flexibility and freedom while maintaining a sober lifestyle. Most of our IOP programs meet for three hours per day, three to five days per week, an excellent middle ground for those new to a sober lifestyle.
What Level of Care Should Expect From an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in Columbus, Ohio?
Similar to residential treatment, patients who participate in Intensive outpatient therapy should expect care that addresses the physical and mental effects of addiction. However, unlike residential treatment, individuals will not sleep at the facility and are expected to remain sober during their time away from treatment. Patients then participate in therapeutic treatments and activities during the scheduled time blocks during the week. Some of these services include:
Therapy
Our Intensive Outpatient Program in Columbus, Ohio offers a high level of support for addiction treatment. Since IOP allows patients to reside in their own homes, they are expected to attend therapy sessions at our rehab facility several days throughout the week. For those who are recently sober, have just completed detox, or struggle to stay sober without accountability, we recommend a higher level of care such as a residential treatment program as it is a necessary first step in the recovery journey.
Medical Services
Medication management and additional health services are available in our Intensive Outpatient Program. Our goal at the Recovery Institute of Ohio is to prepare your body and mind for recovery long after the completion of a treatment program.
Speciality Services
Specialty services such as art and music therapy, job preparedness and education, employment assistance, housing assistance, and relapse prevention services are a crucial part of our IOPs. The purpose of IOP is to prepare all of the patients for life outside of the treatment center and equip them with the tools necessary to maintain sobriety, and our specialty services do just that.
Who is a Good Candidate for Intensive Outpatient Treatment in Columbus, Ohio?
Those who Have Participated in Past Programs
Those who have completed an inpatient program or Partial Hospitalization Program, or suffer from a less serious addiction or mental health illness are prime candidates for an Intensive Outpatient Program. This gradual transition from 24/7 residential care or Partial Hospitalization Program into an IOP can provide a gentle transition and can be less overwhelming for those beginning to take on more responsibilities in the outside world.
Those Who Have a Strong Support System
A strong support system at home or within the community is critical for those considering an IOP. This allows individuals to feel supported and held accountable, even when they are away from the treatment facility. (For those who lack a strong support system at home, our sober living programs provide an excellent transition into independent living with a strong and sober community.)
Those who Require a Flexible Schedule
For parents, professionals, or students who are unable to leave responsibilities in order to participate in residential treatment, an IOP is a great solution. However, we do recommend that anyone who does choose an outpatient program because of the need for flexibility maintain a strong support network in order to maximize the effectiveness of the program and prevent relapse.
